DUZZA EXTENDS CONTRACT WITH HARLEQUIN TEAMWEAR

duzzasigns2016

Harlequin Teamwear are delighted to announce that BDO World Number 1, Glen Durrant has extended his sponsorship agreement with the company until 2017. ‘Duzza’ became an Icon for the brand in December 2013, and it has been fantastic for Harlequin to see him rise to the top of the game, wearing his distinctive Boro’ themed shirts, representing his hometown and club across the world in darts.

2015 was a superb year for the England International, reaching the Lakeside Semi Final, winning the Zuiderduin Masters, Denmark Open, England Classic, England Matchplay, Isle of Man Classic, Welsh Open, and of course the Winmau World Masters.

This year started with heartbreak for the World Number 1, as the tournament favourite exited Lakeside in the Last 8 – but this disappointment just shows how far the Middlesborough man has come.

We are certain it will be another fantastic year for ‘Duzza’ in the BDO, and we look forward to supporting him at competitions throughout the year. It is a pleasure for the company to have Glen Durrant represent Harlequin Teamwear – he is a fantastic ambassador for the brand.

RESULTS – Lakeside Day #7 – Harlequin’s Golden Girl WINS dream 10th title Lakeside

TrinaWins

The 2016 Lakeside World Championship Ladies Final capped off a fantastic week of darts for Harlequin Icon, Trina Gulliver MBE.

It was a dream title victory for either player, Trina, as 9-time World Champion looking for a record 10th title, or Deta Hedman who was searching for her debut win on the stage.

The game was best of 5 sets, and Deta took the first to take the early inititive, checking out on 118, but Trina hit straight back to level the match 1-1 with an out shot of 133.

Despite the Golden Girl continuing to play well, Hedman took the lead once more, knowing that a win in the 4th set would seal her maiden title. However, Trina was resilient once more, showing she had the ‘fire’ inside her to go on to win a history making 10th title, and squared up the game 2-2.

The Golden Girl was in emphatic form, and broke Deta’s thrown in the deciding leg, before going on to hit double 18 to seal her dream 10th title, and picking up the trophy with the loyal Lakeside crowd chanting her name.

We are absolutely delighted for Trina Gulliver, and look forward to the year ahead as her proud Official Shirt Supplier.

RESULTS – Lakeside Day #7

trina

Harlequin Teamwear Stars Glen Durrant and Trina Gulliver MBE were in action on Day #7 at Lakeside, in the Men’s Quarter Final and Ladies Semi Final respectively.

‘Duzza’ took to the stage against Scott Waites, who had previously beaten Harlequin Icon Geert De Vos to reach the Last 8. Glen started in fantastic form, taking the match to 4-2, within a set of clinching victory. However it was the former Champion Scott Waites who fought back and went on to win 5-4. Despite Glen’s obvious disappointment it has been an absolutely fantastic year for Middlesborough’s man and we are sure he will have continued success for the year ahead having picked up BDO majors in 2015 including the World Masters and Finder Masters.

The evening session saw Trina Gulliver MBE face Holland’s Aileen De Graaf, who recently won the 2015 World Masters back in October. Trina started the game strongly with a number of big 100+ scores, and was clinical on her doubles, sealing the first set. Despite playing well in the second, it was Aileen who battled and won the second set. In the decider, Trina continued her fine form, and was eventual 2-1 winner in a tough game.  The Golden Girl, who is in the hunt for her 10th World Championship, will face Deta Hedman in the final.

RESULTS – Lakeside Day #6

Photo 04-01-2016 13 26 36

Day #6 at the 2016 Lakeside World Championships saw 4 Harlequin Icons in action – Geert De Vos, Trina Gulliver MBE, Lorraine Winstanley and Zoe Jones.

First up in the second game of the afternoon session was Zoe Jones, who faced Ann-Louise Peters of Denmark. Zoe took confidence from defeating New Zealand’s Tina Osborne in a tough first round tie, while Ann-Louise Peters had caused a shock by beating Harlequin’s Fallon Sherrock on the opening round. Unfortunately for Zoe she lost out 2-0, but at the age of 23 we know the England star will be back to grace the famous Lakeside stage many times over the coming years, and will look to return next year having gained more experience from her second appearance at the competition.

The last game of the afternoon session was a game of Lakeside champions, as Harlequin’s 9-time World Champion Trina Gulliver MBE took on two-time Lakeside winner and former Harlequin Icon, Lisa Ashton. Throughout the tournament Lisa has been the favourite with pundits and favourites alike, but it was Trina who was in flying form on the day, getting a 2-1 victory to progress to the Semi Finals. We are delighted for Trina and look forward to supporting her on Day #7 at Lakeside as she faces Holland’s Aileen de Graaf.

Harlequin Icon Lorraine Winstanley took to the stage in the evening session live on BT Sport, facing Deta Hedman. Lorraine had started the competition in fine form, defeating Rachel Brooks 2-0, but Deta took the lead, before winning the second set to seal a 2-0 victory. Undoubtedly Lorraine will be disappointed to exit the competition but her progress to the Quarter Finals caps off a successful year, and we look forward to supporting Lorraine again throughout 2016.

The headline game of the evening saw Harlequin Teamwear’s 2015 BDO World Trophy Champion, Geert De Vos take to the stage against Scott Waites. It was a dream start, as Geert won 3 straight sets, including a second set that was won by hitting 3-bull finishes. Disappointingly for our Belgium Star, Waites battled back, and then went on to win the game 4-3. Geert will look to put this defeat behind him, and we know he will have a fantastic 2016 as one of the highest scoring players on the BDO circuit, which was illustrated by his huge 113.86 average in his third game at the 2015 PDC Grand Slam of Darts.

RESULTS – Lakeside Day #5

glen

Day #5 at the 2016 Lakeside World Darts Championships saw 3 Harlequin Icons in action – Glen Durrant, Lorraine Winstanley and Jim Williams, who all played consecutively in the afternoon session live on BBC.

Glen Durrant faced Larry Butler from America, in what pundits anticipated to be a close encounter, despite Duzza’s number one seeding. Back in October it was Larry who knocked Glen out of the 2015 Grand Slam of Darts qualifiers, but Duzza capped of the same week by defeating the ‘The Eagle’ in the 2015 Winmau World Masters Final. Glen started the game at Lakeside in fantastic form, checking out on 141 to win the first leg, before going on to win 8 straight legs. Butler struggled to cope with Durrant’s high scoring and clinical finishing, and the eventual result was a convincing 4-0 victory for Middlesborough’s finest. Glen will face the winner of Harlequin Star Geert De Vos versus Scott Waites.

Next up was Lorraine Winstanley, who had a five day wait before playing her opening game at the competition. However, with plenty of practice and feeling settled at the venue, Lorraine started the game in brilliant style against fellow Yorkshire County player, Rachel Brooks, with husband and fellow Harlequin Icon Dean Winstanley watching on. Missed doubles saw Lorraine lose the first leg, before coming back to take the first set. From there onwards, Lorraine confidently went on to win 2-0, and progress to the next round where she faces Deta Hedman.

In the last game of the afternoon session was Welsh International and WDF World Cup Singles Champion, Jim Williams who was competing in the 2nd round at Lakeside for the first time. Drawn against tough opposition in the form of Netherland’s Wesley Harms, Jim was in for a difficult game to reach the last 8. Wesley took the initiative  in the game, but Jim battled to find his high scoring form, and took the lead 3-2. In a classic exciting Lakeside match, Jim unfortunately missed doubles to win the game, before the tide turned once more and Harms sealed the 4-3 victory. Nonetheless, a fantastic effort by Jim Williams who had two very tough games at Lakeside this year and impressed on the big stage – we’re sure it will be another very strong year for the Welshman in 2016.

RESULTS – Lakeside Day #4

zoe4

Harlequin Icon Zoe Jones faced New Zealand’s Tina Osborne in the opening round of the 2016 Lakeside World Championships. ‘The Pink Panther’ missed doubles to take the initiative, which saw Tina take the lead 1-0. However Zoe managed to find her high scoring form, and won two sets on the bounce to progress to the Quarter Finals of the competition – where she will face Denmark’s Ann Louise-Peters.

geert4

Belgian Darts Star Geert De Vos progressed to the Second Round at Lakeside for a fifth consecutive year, defeating Greece’s Kostas Pantelidis. Harlequin Teamwear Star Geert started the game in fine form, winning the first two sets, but let Kosta’s nick a leg off him, before going on to win 3-1. In the next round ‘Foxy’ will face Scott Waites.

RESULTS – Lakeside Day #3

theboss

There was one Harlequin player in action on Day #3 at the 2016 Lakeside World Championships, Scotland International and long-serving Icon for the brand, Ross ‘The Boss’ Montgomery!

The Boss faced a difficult encounter in the first round, drawn against BDO World Number 4, Jamie Hughes. The match was tipped by pundits as one that would be an incredibly close tie. Unfortunately on the evening Ross went 1-0 down, and missed doubles to fight back against ‘Yozza’ – with the game going on to finish 3-0.

We’re sure Ross will be back in fine form during the 2016 season and look forward to supporting him again this year.

RESULTS – Lakeside Day #2

Photo 04-01-2016 13 26 36

Day #2 at the 2016 Lakeside World Darts Championships saw two Harlequin Stars take to the stage – last year’s finalist Fallon Sherrock, and 9-time World Champion, Trina Gulliver MBE.

Fallon took to the stage in the afternoon session live on BBC, off the back of a number of big wins throughout 2015, including the Finder Masters. Fallon started in fine form, with a number of 180’s and big scores, taking the first set. However her opposition, Denmark’s Ann-Louise Peters, battled back to cause a shock and win the match 2-1.

In the evening it was The Golden Girl’s turn, as Trina Gulliver MBE took on Dee Bateman. Trina started the game well and won the opening set. Dee became more comfortable on the famous Lakeside stage as the game progressed, and equaled game 1-1. The match was destined to go all the way, with Trina having to fight back in the 3rd set to take the game to a deciding leg. The 9-time World Champion did not disappoint and won the vital bull-up in the 5th leg and went on to seal the win.

Well done to Harlequin Icon, Trina Gulliver MBE on progressing to the next round, she will face former-Harlequin star, Lisa Ashton.

RESULTS – Lakeside Day #1

Photo 02-01-2016 17 06 29

Harlequin Teamwear Icon’s Anastasia Dobromyslova, Glen Durrant, Jim Williams and Alan Soutar were in action on the opening day at the 2016 Lakeside World Championships in front of a sell-out capacity crowd in Frimley Green.

The opening game of the tournament saw Welsh International and WDF World Cup Singles Champion, Jim Williams facing a very tough opposition in the form of 3-time Lakeside finalist Tony O’Shea. Despite a battling performance, with all sets going to the fifth and final leg, Jim came out 3-0 winner on the afternoon, meaning the BDO World Number 10 progresses to the 2nd round of the competition for the first time.

Next up was Alan Soutar in the preliminary round, against New Zealand’s Craig Caldwell. Scotland International, ‘Soots’ as he is affectionately known, qualified through the Lakeside Qualifiers back in October, took the lead 1-0 in sets, but Craig battled back to win 3-1 and reach the first round. It was fantastic to see Alan’s family and friends wearing their matching ‘Tartan Army’ Harlequin shirts in the crowd during the afternoon.

Anastasia took to the stage in the evening session in what all BDO Darts fans knew would be a tough test against Anca Zijlstra of Holland. Although 3-time World Champion, Anastasia was the favourite going into the game, it was Anca who was the eventual 2-1 winner, with Harlequin Teamwear’s Russian Star ruing missed opportunities to win the match.

The final game of the evening saw last year’s Semi Finalist and BDO World Number 1, Glen Durrant take to the stage. Middlesborough’s ‘Duzza’ had a difficult draw, in the form of emerging talent Dean Reynolds from Wales. Glen was pushed on a number of occasions throughout the game, but went on to win 3-0 and make the 2nd round of the competition.

We are delighted to see Harlequin Stars Jim Williams and Glen Durrant progress on the opening day at Lakeside, and will keep you updated when their second round ties are decided.
