Ricky was diagnosed with bone cancer at age 14, and had his hip and femur replaced by prosthesis which saved his life. Following complications in 2007 Ricky had his left hip, pelvis and leg amputated.
Seven years later, in 2014, The Trickster went on to be crowned the WDDA World Masters Champion in front of a packed Hull City Hall venue. Shortly after, Ricky agreed to join Harlequin and represent the company as an Icon, becoming an ambassador for the brand.
Ricky's successful run continued at the start of 2015 when he won the Winmau WDDA Classic in Birmingham. In October Ricky returned to defend his WDDA World Masters title, but was Runner Up on this occasion to Vince D'Hond from Belgium.
