Alan Soutar

Harlequin Teamwear Icon
  • Nationality: Scottish
  • Nickname: Soots
  • Date of Birth: 10 January 1978

Soots, one of the proudest Scotsmen you will ever meet, former Royal Marine and now active fireman, who outside of a busy working life dedicates all of his spare time to darts: captaining his county (Angus Ravens) and representing Scotland internationally with fellow Harlequin Icon Ross Montgomery.

Additionally Alan established the Angus Darts Academy for kids in the local community, providing a safe opportunity for them to socialise and compete - as well as improve their arithmetic and learn the values of professionalism and sportsmanship - two traits which Soots prides himself on, making him an ideal player to represent Harlequin Teamwear.

In 2013 Alan received the honour of a lifetime, and was voted by the Scottish public as Scotland's Sports Volunteer of the Year in STV series Scotland's Real Heroes, for his commitment to his local community.

Soots has numerous career highlights to his name in darts, including an appearance at the 2011 BDO Darts World Championship at Lakeside, where he hopes to play again. Last October Alan threw the winning dart to seal Scotland's win at the 2013 World Cup in Canada (in the Men’s Team Event). Back in 2008 Soots was crowned World Champion of the World Fire Fighters Games Darts having won the gold medal at the competition.

On joining Harlequin Alan said: "What an honour, to be asked to become a Harlequin Icon and join a team of BDO darting stars including World Champions. I was first made aware of Harlequin products from my Scottish Captain and roommate Ross Montgomery. Having worn Harlequin on international duty for the past few years - I can say for sure they are pioneers in the modern darts shirts arena. The Angus Darts Academy has ordered over 150 dart shirts for our youth players and they all love to play darts in Harlequin shirts!"

Alan won the 2015 Lakeside Qualifiers at Hull City Hall in October to secure a return to the prestigious BDO World Championships in January 2016.
